Chimney Cleaning How is the chimney cleaned? The area around the fireplace is completely tarped off. The technician places a ladder on the chimney to gain access to the flue. Then specially fitted wire brushes are used to scrub the flue down to the smoke shelf. Next the crownwash, flue tiles and brickwork are inspected. The technician then continues the cleaning from inside the home. The damper is removed from the firebox, which allows the smoke shelf and walls to be cleaned and inspected for damage. The damper is then reinserted and the debris from the firebox removed. Once the cleaning is finished the technician provides the customer with a detailed inspection list that specifies the conditions of the fireplace.
